Become a Prairie Wolf

The first time you pull on that black and gold uniform, you’ll see there’s nothing like the experience of being a student and an athlete at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

  • It’s about tradition.
  • It’s about doing what you love and competing hard.
  • It’s about adding what you learn in class to what you learn on a team.
  • And it’s about having an amazing college experience.

Being a member of a team provides a sense of belonging, which more closely connects the players to the university as a whole. With a student body of just over 2,000, Nebraska Wesleyan is consistently a top producer of prestigious scholars, NCAA Academic All-Americans, and other national awards.

NWU Intercollegiate Sports

Nebraska Wesleyan University competes exclusively in NCAA Division III as a member of the American Rivers Conference. Our NCAA affiliation puts you in position to compete on a bigger stage. And our emphasis on academics puts you in position to pursue a truly excellent education as you continue competing athletically.

A Leader in Academic All-Americans

Nebraska Wesleyan University ranks among the all-time leaders in the entire nation, regardless of college division (NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA), with 120 student-athletes winning a combined 181 CoSIDA Academic All-America awards.

This total ranks NWU seventh among all schools and third among NCAA Division III institutions. Since 2000, NWU has produced 118 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, which also ranks 9th in the nation.

Spirit Squad

The Nebraska Wesleyan Spirit Squad is a symbol of team pride and school spirit. Comprised of a cheerleading squad, a dance team and mascot, the Spirit Squad represents the University at athletic events and other campus functions.

Athletic Facilities

Nebraska Wesleyan student-athletes train and compete in excellent facilities.

Recent upgrades in Abel Stadium include a big screen, expanded press box, and a new Mondo surface track.

The Weary Center for Health and Fitness houses the 2,350-seat Snyder Arena, an outstanding athletic training program, an aerobics/dance exercise room, an Olympic-size pool, racquetball courts, and a top-notch circuit room and weight room. Technology in the weight room like camera-equipped squat boxes helps you get the most out of your workouts. The Weary Center also offers a voluntary bike checkout program.

Intramural Sports

Intramural sports help hard-working students keep active and fit, meet classmates, and have fun competing in the sports you love. This comprehensive program offers individual and team sports through organized leagues, tournaments, and special events. Many sports offer both competitive and just-for-fun leagues.

Student Athletes

Coaches and faculty help students put the emphasis in "student" in the term "student athlete".
